Background

A few years ago, I created a "complete" modification for Pokemon Red entitled Pokemon TRE: Team Rocket Edition. I put complete in quotes because it is fully playable, but the only things that were changed were tiles, map blocks, or table entries. Now that the PokeRed disassembly exists (and I have learned assembly), I am proud to announce the sequel to the game, Pokemon TRE2: Team Rocket Edition, The Revamped Episode.

Story

The story line is simple, you play as a member of Team Rocket who reports directly to Giovanni. Help him grow Team Rockets influence on the region of Aster by completing missions and taking over cities along the way.

It's not technically a sequel, since the story line is not based upon the contents of the first game, but its the same premise (just 100x better).

Here is the layout to Aster:

Very nice to see this here! Saw it on Skeetendo months ago and it was looking impressive even then. Good luck, you've done pretty awesome things with the red disassembly.

Holy crap this would be a game I'd consider playing. You've practically ripped the game apart and reassembled it as you please. You've overhauled the game and did a really good job while at it. I look forward to seeing much, much more from this.

Thank you! Yeah, this game would not exist without that disassembly (though I only use it for reference). I can't thank the people who worked on that enough.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so I won't have any updated for the next week! Feel free to post any suggestions though (new attack ideas will be appreciated)

I was on vacation for the past week, so there is little progress, but I have been working on the tedious and boring process and "devamping" all of the pokemon mini-sprites to fit into the battle screen hud. I still have a lot of work to do on screen and graphic updates, but soon enough I will be able to get back to the story line!

The next battle work is fixing all scripts that deal with the pokemon/trainers sprites since they are now at a new location on the screen, and then adding in the remaining 9 battle backgrounds. Then comes fixing some bugs that I inadvertently created in the pokedex/stats screen.

No screen shots, but once I am done with the battle screen I'll have some. I DID update the main post and make it pretty, so you can take a look at that if you want ;)

I'd been hoping for a good Rocket-point-of-view hack, and this really looks like it has potential. So many things that you're planning to change. TBH, I'm most uncomfortable at the moment about the new battle HUD you're planning, but I guess we'll see come release whether it's a change that won't break the experience for me.

Consider me interested. XD

Thanks! The battle screen is one of my favorite visual changes so far, but it is a huge change so I can see why it could be strange to play. Maybe I'll make a quick video once I fix the animations so you can get a better feel of it.

I noticed that "Adventure" and "Challenge" are under "Continue." Does this mean that there are multiple save files or are they just "New Game" functions?

PokeGlitch
24th August 2014, 05:39 PM
Those are for startig a new adventure/challenge. The word 'New' wouldn't fit because I am using OAM tiles for the text highlighting, and you can only have 10 tiles in 1 row for that.

Multiple save files would be something would be a challenge, since I'm sure I'd have to reduce the size of the save file. Fortunately, emulators solve the multiple saves issue for everyone

Seems to be coming along nicely. The only thing I really noticed was that (to me anyway) the font used to show the number and the word PP seems to look slightly odd somehow. Made it look like it was saying "Opp" a few times. But in general it looks really nice.

Hm you're right, I'll see if I can change the PP tile somehow. Thanks!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but here is a new video showing off some changes to the battle screen.

zNgDjj_8XUY

In it, you'll notice a new battle background, new level tiles, an exp bar, and a pokeball next to the oppenents HUD to show that you already own that pokemon. Also, the Weepinbell is level 90, but with the stats of a level 40, just so Golbat can defeat it but still collect a lot of Exp.

Let me know what you all think.

I've spent this past week adding in a bunch of new battle features.

I updated the way the game handles status ailments. Some ailments (like confusion) will still exist for that pokemon even when withdrawn from battle. Other ailments (like toxic) will continue to exist even when the battle ends.

I also changed the way the "obedience" will work. Instead of comparing the pokemon level against your badges, each pokemon will have a specific "obedience" byte. The game will use this byte to determine if the pokemon will obey or not.

This byte starts at a low value (depending on how you obtained it) and will increase the more you use that pokemon. Some events may cause it to decrease, like doing poorly in battle or not being used in a while.

There will be more announced later this week (hopefully with another video this time)

Thanks. Beta isn't available yet (i might not even be releasing a beta), but as soon as a download is available, I will post it in this thread.

For an update:

I added in Horde Battles. These battles randomly occur (though only certain pokemon will appear in hordes) and will vary in size from 3 to 6 pokemon. This battle occurs just like a normal wlid pokemon, but they will attack in sequence. You can run from these battles, but it will be not be easy.

That's amazing, buuuuuuuuuuut I don't think "PIDGEY'S" is really correct... I'd get rid of the apostrophe :)

I finally added in the new types for each pokemon. I also updated the Type Chart for the new types and added in additional ways the attack damage gets modified (based upon the environment, time of day, and other features).

For a teaser for the next update: One of the "other features" that can affect the attack damage is the Ability of the pokemon using/receiving the attack

PokeGlitch

Here's another big update:

First off, I added in the physical/special split for attack. I also modified the way the game handles calculates damage for special attacks. Instead of solely comparing the Special of both Pokemon, it compares the average of Special+Attack and average of Special+Defense. This is my way of incorporating Special attack/Defense.

As I mentioned in the previous update, pokemon will have special Abilities, that can affect the battle. I only created 25 abilities (and am still in the process of actually implementing them), but here is the list:

Cold Blooded
Early Bird
Flame Body
Flying Dragon
Headpiece
Ill Tempered
Invisible
Invisible Wall
Money Finder
Nocturnal
Photosynthesis
Poison Skin
Porous
Predator
Recharge
Regenerative
See Through
Sharp Mind
Sleepwalk
Slicer
Stench
Swimmer
Telepathic
Tough Skin
Venomous

More details about the abilities will be announced soon!
