Opened at the request of the thread owner who would like to bring some actual discussion points.

Reb0rn & Laz pls

So if you look online, the people with "colorful" names outnumbers regular users. Is there really a need to give everyone titles like this? I just think it's a slightly amusing asymmetry, but apparently this has been interpreted as anything other than a casual observation. ;P No, this is not an attack upon the hard-working staff; No, I am not spamming you guys; No, I don't want to be staff.

Also it might make the site look less active, and more dominated by staff who "have" to be active. (This is to you Laz, as you've said before you wanted the site to grow.)

Maybe if all the VIPs are one color instead of four, that might cut down on the issue a bit.

I agree with this, because it is hard to remember what colour each rank is for VIPs. Also on the note of colours, the other colours need to be changed because some colours are hard to read in some themes.

I like that idea. Higher-level VIPs would just get more benefits or something... I dunno. It would make the online list less cluttered, at least.

Well, I can start by saying there's a lot of groups and some may be more necessary than others. The groups are given to people that have done something to deserve them.

In terms of VIP 1-3, that's for donators. Most people when they donate they expect something special to be added to your account. Ok, there could be only 1 VIP group which would slim things down a little. The other non-numbered VIP group is for contest winners from the past, just to show they won. All of that could be combined into a single group to make less colours. That won't solve the issue you're saying of everyone having colours, it would just make less colours overall.

People seem to take offence when they come back and expect a position or expect to have a medal they had in the past for something they did like being staff member, winning a contest or donating $100. That's why there are so many groups for different circumstances to deal with the 5-6 years of history behind us. Think about Green Charizard the founder, if he came back to find out he wasn't being praised with the Founder group he'd be upset.

I think that's what the main issue he's having is: too many colours. It's not a huge deal, but yeah I agree, it seems a little chaotic.

It's tolerable, it's not causing harm. I don't see what the issue is.

The point of this site is not about the coloring of usernames, but we do want to give something to those who donate to this site, financially or content.

What this site is about, however, is ROM Hacking, ROM Hacking Resources, Game Development, and the exchange of information and criticism.

The off-topic section is just for those who want to exchange other kinds of information. There is a reason we left it as one section.

Also, this belongs in site feedback.
