Default A "programming" section?

I know this isn't really directly related to hacking, but if we could have a place where we could discuss programming (such as Cocoa, C++, etc.) so that we could learn how to make programs (and ultimately, tools), that would be nice.

And it would make sense for us, because we're all about tools for hacking, etc., right?

Though if you feel that's not appropriate for us, I'm fine with it also. I'm just saying that it would be a cool little something honestly, as I'm learning programming myself to make a tool and would like to discuss it here to keep me motivated.

I guess that would be yet another empty section... Maybe a thread would work better.

Totally agree with this!

I'd say you have a pretty decent idea here, but it could be improved a lot to make a section worthy of making. No one will learn how to program just by making a section where there would be discussion of how to make programs with certain programming languages.

But what I think is that there could still be a programming section, but that could be instead for asking for help in general situations. For instance;

I need to create a loop that does "this" thing "x" amount of times and saves the result each time in a certain memory slot. But there's a problem I'm having... or

Hi, I'm using Java and possibly need an ArrayList/HashMap that would preserve the following data: [insert something here]. The problem is that I'm having hard time using that table to look for the wanted values and so, it might be a better idea to store this table in an object instead. Could somebody help me out here?

So I think a general programming section would be useful to have. Of course, people might as well ask questions related to scripting (even in gen III games like they tend to in PC) there, but instead of fully explaining the situations in "pokemon scripting engine language", the questions could instead be related to the problem they're having and asking for a way to solve it which anyone with the programming skills could do - even without understanding the scripting engine used in that specific game.

(Here's also a good example of me posting in Skeetendo forums and asking for help a couple of months ago: http://hax.iimarck.us/topic/3319/

Due to having people like Tauwasser around, I got the help I needed and yeah... I would totally support the idea of programming section myself.)

Yes yes I like this keep talking I like it. But considering our lack of diversity I think just a general "Programming" section perhaps with some icons / predefined tags & labels would suit. Perhaps a sub-category for projects with the main area reserved for documents / articles / tutorials / etc.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean.

Something to make learning programming fun is what I tried to explain but of course not detailed enough so

I think many of us do want to learn programming but we're not able to find somebody to help us otherwise, so this should at least be a moderately active section.

I'll be honest, I'll probably abuse that section. I do know how to program, but I have bad technique that I need to improve upon.

But yeah, I'd like something like this. But I'm hoping that it just doesn't turn into another section that dies rather quickly like the rest of the forum has.

Well can I point out the Scripts & Programming section we already have? It's not very active but I don't see much difference apart from this maybe being in the wrong place. Not to mention it seems people are not using it much, if at all, for what I intended it for in the beginning which is what you guys are talking about. Any ideas that could be applied to this existing section that could make it stand out more?

Yes, but if you could make it more visible rather than a subforum in a subforum or whatever it is right now.
