Have you tried using Wine to run Windows programs? Or set up a dualboot? Or a virtual machine?

When I go off to college, I'm hoping to build a dual-boot laptop, that way I never have to worry about compatibility, since I want to do iOS design, but still hack.

Yes but the problem lies within these two dilemmas (and one aesthetic concern):
  • It doesn't run stuff with .NET framework
  • Neither VirtualBox nor Boot Camp come with a preinstallation of Windows, so I have to pay $200 for that and I sure as hell don't have the money (yes I do, but I'm saving that for emergency -steam- purchases)
  • WINE looks ugly as hell imo and I would rather run it in a Windows OS. It also is a pain in the butt because .exe is also an archive format, so…

So while I can get the basics to run (Lunar Magic, Advance Map, etc.) I can't get most of the more complicated tools (such as the Maker3D that I soooo badly wanted to try out) to run.

This is more of a first-world problem than anything, but if I could get that fixed by having some tools made for the Mac. (I'm learning Cocoa atm so I'm willing to pitch in with the development or do it myself eventually)

Who said you had to pay for Windows? ;D Hell, find a used copy of 2000 or XP at a pawn shop. Try the serial key and if it fails, just crack it.

I have a few custom ones. :3
with a bunch of cracked stuff and rh utilities slipstreamed

ALSO

For you nimrods who haven't heard of it yet,
there is a terrific thing called "Mono" that let's you run .NET
in a similar manner that WINE will let you run not .NET thingies.

I used to ROM Hack on my iMac with WINE.
But after a couple of days, I bought a Windows 8 licence, so I installed it on VirtualBox.
Yesterday, I got rid of VirtualBox and now I do everything on Boot Camp.(Oh and the Windows 8 licence was for 3 computers)
