Post Pokemon Fallout rom hack

So my friends and i were talking, and we came up with a great idea for a rom hack. It takes place in the US:

Story Line:
You are a child living in a small city(Spokane), When the air-raid sirens start wailing. Pr. Silph rushes everyone into the basement of his lab. A radio is turned on, and someone says we are getting nuked by Russia.

Pr. Silph then leaves, and comes back. He announces that the fallout radiation from the nukes had mutated the animals, and given them extraordinary powers(the animals are now pokemon). He then shows the people gathered there his new device, called the pokeball. This pokeball could capture the mutated animals, and make them obey you.

Pr Silph gives one pokeball to everyone, then leaves to try and sell his invention. At the lab, the 2nd in command, Pr. Oak, is left in charge.

As his first action, Pr Oak gathers the town children(which consists of the player, ash, brock, and misty), and asks them to run some errand. in return the children get 1 mutated animal each.

The children soon discover that the Russians are also invading, not just bombing. The Russians had captured Pr Silph, and had taken his invention.

The children then vow to drive off the Russians. by training with their pokemon, and defeating them in battle(pokemon battles). The children then start fighting off the Russian infantry, and start working in conjunction with the US military.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Instead of battling 8 gym leaders, The player will earn gym badges by defeating high-ranking Russian Generals, who have no specific type.

Here is the world map I might use:

And a few Questions:
  • Can I put new trainers in the game, such as an army dude?
  • The goal is to defeat the Russians, preferably before they successfully invade the US. would it be a good idea to make it so you have to defeat them all within a certain time(such as 80 or 100 hrs game play time) or the Russians take over, and the player looses?
  • And is it possible to create new items that would fit the story line? Im thinking of maybe a combat knife(ups attack), a silencer(ups evasiveness), or some freeze-dried meals(restores some HP)?

And im a total noob at rom hacking, so any feedback would be great! Also, if you guys think of anything else that might be cool in this, Please tell me what it is, even if it seems dumb! Some of the best ideas started out super stupid, then they were just refined.

Number 1 and 3 are easily completable. there are both tools made to do exactly them jobs in a number of minutes. Going by the names of A-Trainer and Item Manager. the names are pretty self explanatory.

However, 2 on the other hand, would be a lot harder, requiring ASM to input a timer for the thing to count down the 800 -100 hour play time that you're suggesting, but even then 80 -100 hours is a really long for a Pokémon game, which usually average between, 15 -30 hours, depending on how good the player is.

That's awesome that there are pre made tools to use! The "80-100 hr" number was just off the top of my head, not something I was intending to use. But 15 seems a little short to compleat a Pokemon game.

Also, since I'm a noob to this, where can/should I try to get more expirienced hackers to help me learn how to do all this? So much stuff I don't know how to do.

And what of the world map? Is it good? Anything missing? Any suggestions would be awesome.

There have been people reported to have completed it in around 5 -10 hours so 15 -30 is a fairly good play margin to be honest.

To learn, there are multiple places you can try such as the tutorial section here and in a few other forum.
PHO's Tutorial Section (Or guides and documentation as they call it).

The world map, is a little bit too large, a lot of empty space, and what seems like extremely long routes. I'd personally suggest you scale the size of the routes down a but, but I don;t have any graphical knowledge at all when it comes to this.
